Agsafe is excited to announce an upcoming ChemClear collection event in Victoria, offering agricultural producers and businesses a crucial opportunity to safely and responsibly dispose of unwanted or obsolete agricultural chemicals.
With the registration deadline set for Friday, 31 January 2025, now is the perfect time for Victorian farmers to take action, ensuring their farms are safe and clean.
Keep your farm clean and compliant
Storing outdated or cancelled chemicals can pose significant risks to health, safety, and the environment. Maintaining a well-organised and hazard-free farm environment not only enhances safety but also helps prevent potential incidents related to improper chemical storage. Agsafe’s ChemClear program provides an efficient and responsible disposal pathway, supporting farmers in meeting their obligations under various quality assurance and farm management programs.
Why register your chemicals?
This collection comes at a pivotal time following the recent APVMA cancellation of products containing dimethyl tetrachloroterephthalate (DCPA), commonly known as Dacthal. With DCPA products now banned in Australia, it’s vital to dispose of them correctly. We urge farmers to register these and other unwanted chemicals before the deadline to ensure they are disposed of safely.
ChemClear accepts a wide range of chemicals, categorised into two groups:
- Group 1 chemicals: Eligible for free disposal if still within two years of their expiration date, in original containers, and from drumMUSTER-participating manufacturers.
- Group 2 chemicals: These include unlabelled, unknown, or expired chemicals from non-participating manufacturers and require a disposal fee, quoted upon registration.
How the program works
- Inventory your chemicals: List all unwanted chemicals, including details like product name and container size.
- Register your chemicals: Visit chemclear.org.au or call 1800 008 182 to register. You’ll receive a reference number and classification for each item.
- Store safely: Keep registered chemicals securely stored and labelled using ChemClear’s provided stickers.
- Drop off: Once notified, transport chemicals safely to the designated collection point.
- Safe disposal: ChemClear ensures chemicals are repurposed responsibly, with 98% used as alternate fuel sources and the remainder treated with specialised technologies.
Let’s work together to keep Victoria’s farms clean and sustainable!
Act now to contribute to a safer, greener, and more compliant agricultural industry.
