Launched in December 2024, Coopers Exzolt Pour-on for Cattle is the first and only Australian cattle product that contains fluralaner. Coopers Exzolt is a low-volume pour-on, offering long-lasting control of cattle tick, bush tick, and buffalo fly and will help Australian cattle farmers fight chemical resistance.
Cattle tick and buffalo fly are the two parasites of great concern for both Queensland and New South Wales farmers.
With cattle tick resistance a growing concern on greater than 90 per cent of Australian cattle properties with resistance to at least one active, and close to 60 per cent of farms with multiple resistance to several acaricides 1,2, the arrival of Coopers Exzolt couldn’t come at a better time.
The combined economic toll of cattle ticks and buffalo flies is staggering, costing the Australian cattle industry over$ 300 million each year.
These parasites cause irritation, reduce weight gain or weight loss, and damage hides. For producers already battling rising input costs and climate-driven pressures, external parasite control has become more critical and more challenging.
MSD Animal Health Technical Advisor, Michelle Dever says Coopers Exzolt Pour-on for Cattle will provide cattle producers with more options and greater flexibility throughout the tick and buffalo fly season.
“Coopers Exzolt Pour-on for Cattle fits into every sustainable cattle tick and/or buffalo fly program, giving cattle producers the flexibility of when to treat,” Michelle said.
Coopers Exzolt delivers long-lasting control of cattle tick, bush tick and buffalo flies. Producers can expect 56 days control of cattle tick, 21 days control of bush tick and 21 days control of buffalo fly.
This extended window of protection means producers don’t need to reapply as frequently, reducing labour and stress on cattle.
“Producers have a number of options.
“They can treat cattle with Coopers Exzolt Pour-on for Cattle when the tick season begins coinciding with the spring rise, later in the tick season to control both cattle tick and buffalo fly as the fly season begins, or further into the season when buffalo fly populations are potentially at their peak and to also reduce tick egg numbers contaminating pastures and being a source of infection in the following spring,” Michelle said.
Importantly, Coopers Exzolt has a retreatment interval of 88 days, helping support responsible rotation and resistance management. It’s an easy-to-apply pour-on and works systemically through absorption into the blood stream via grooming and via direct contact.
A single 5L pack of Coopers Exzolt treats 200 head of 500kg cattle and is available through rural resellers across Australia for the upcoming tick and buffalo fly season.
For resellers, it’s a chance to open new conversations with producers looking for a new product to manage cattle ticks, bush ticks and buffalo flies, especially for producers that have cattle ticks and or buffalo flies on their property resistant to some of the older actives.
With the 2025–26 season just around the corner, cattle producers are being encouraged to speak with their local rural reseller or animal health advisor about how Coopers Exzolt might fit into their parasite control strategy.
It’s rare that a product comes along with such a clear point of difference especially in a space as crowded and competitive as external parasite control.
Between its long-lasting control, and its effectiveness against resistant strains of cattle tick and buffalo fly, Coopers Exzolt Pour-on for Cattle is shaping up to be one of the most significant developments in cattle external parasite control in many years.
