Impact Fertilisers has launched its new nitrogen efficiency product, N-Guard.

N-Guard is a urease inhibitor (NBPT)which helps safeguard against atmospheric nitrogen losses.

It slows the action of the urease enzyme, delaying the conversion of urea to ammonium, which helps reduce nitrogen losses due to volatilisation, boosting your nitrogen efficiency. 

Impact Fertilisers' commercial general manager Nigel Hall says the importance of urease inhibitors when it comes to top-dress nitrogen applications addresses “adverse conditions, such as delayed rainfall, warm temperatures, or poor crop cover, which may result in nitrogen losses through volatilisation”. 

Nigel says these nitrogen losses may be reduced by treating urea with N-Guard, which helps reduce the effects of volatilisation.

“By minimising atmospheric nitrogen losses, growers can more effectively manage their nitrogen application rates,” he says.

“When dealing with unpredictable rainfall, N-Guard can be an important tool for growers to help manage their urea application programs, allowing additional time for nitrogen incorporation after application.

“Once in the subsoil, volatilisation is significantly reduced, and the nitrogen is converted to ammonium and nitrate, becoming available for plant uptake.”

Impact Fertilisers now offers N-Guard at its Townsville, Brisbane, Port Adelaide, Newcastle, Geelong, Portland, and Tasmanian sites.
