Syngenta has successfully completed the acquisition of Macspred Australia, a business located in Ballarat that specialises in industrial, forestry and non-crop weed control.

David Van-Ryswyk, head of Syngenta professional solutions ANZ, said the newly acquired company enhances the range of services provided by Syngenta, positioning it to meet the needs of customers throughout the country.

Macspred has specialised in vegetation management in forestry, roads, rail, utilities and infrastructure for over 30 years, researching and developing products specifically for these situations.

The acquisition for an undisclosed amount is for 100% ownership of Macspread and includes all products, toll formulation, manufacturing and distributorship sites, warehousing, and intellectual property.

All Macspred employees will transfer to Syngenta Australia, while remaining based in Macspred locations.

“We are very excited to bring this business into the Syngenta SPS business locally,” Mr Van-Ryswyk said. “Our investment in non-crop industries ensures customers benefit from the global expertise of Syngenta, coupled with the local research, development and manufacturing of Macspred.”

“We are particularly pleased to be entering the forestry products market for the first time, servicing both large-scale commercial plantation customers and a growing farm forestry clientele who are seeking ways to improve financial sustainability and environmental biodiversity on farm.”

Paul Luxton, country head of Syngenta Australia New Zealand, said the acquisition strengthens the presence of Syngenta in aligned markets, complementing Syngenta’s existing portfolio of products.

“The purchase aligns with Syngenta’s strategy of providing innovative solutions to help customers face their challenges in a changing world.”

“We are confident that it will be successful for all stakeholders involved,” Mr Luxton said.
