Animal Health Innovations is an Australian company breaking new ground in animal nutrition, with a unique range of products delivering measurable improvements to animal health whilst offering significant commercial advantages to both farmers and retailers.

AHI director James Callinan who oversees the development of the range of dairy, equine, and companion animal products has been delighted with the extraordinary feedback from farmers and retailers who appreciate the point of difference the product range offers within these traditionally commoditised categories.

“For example, we’re particularly passionate about dairy calf rearing, and farmers and retailers have been extremely encouraging of our developments in this space that are aligned with the latest local and international research on early life nutrition as well as anti-microbial stewardship.”

Converting clients to using CMR over saleable milk presents a huge opportunity for retailers.

Specifically, the current Animal Health Innovations dairy range includes:

• trumilk CMR – the purest and most nutrient dense calf milk replacer on the market. Currently being used by some of the Australia’s leading calf rearers as a preferred alternative to fresh milk and other powders.

As its name suggests, Mr Callinan said trumilkCMR uniquely comprises only true milk-sourced fat and protein. This provides countless nutritional and digestive benefits over many plant-based alternatives.

The details of this benchmark CMR are:

• 28% Protein and 22% fat

• Only milk-sourced protein and fat

• Unrivalled solubility

• Optimised vitamin and mineral component with safe Bovatec levels.

Having tried a wide range of milk replacers over many years, leading calf rearer Toru Tuckett has used trumilk CMR for the past two seasons and couldn’t be happier with the results of her replacement heifers:

“We’ve had fantastic results. The product consistency is amazing. It’s one of the only products on the market where all of the ingredients are fully utilised by the calf. It mixes fantastically. It’s just so easy.”

With farmgate prices at record levels the Animal Health Innovations team continues to see farmers reviewing their traditional approach to using saleable milk to rear calves.

“Converting clients to using CMR over saleable milk presents a huge opportunity for retailers. trumilk CMR provides a high-quality alternative to saleable milk and we’re happy to work directly with retailers in conveying that message to their clients,” Mr Callinan said.

He said Animal Health Innovations also has a range of other products for livestock and companion animals, including:

• Precision Microbes – a world leading liquid live pro/postbiotic supplement that supports gut health and associated immunity and general wellbeing in calves. This product has been developed and manufactured in Ireland and has taken the UK and European dairy market by storm.

Administered as a daily dose into milk for the first 30 days of life, the product was used on more than 150,000 Irish dairy calves last season.

Veterinary consultant Tommy Heffernan said, “In 19 years of veterinary practice this is the most interesting science and product that I have worked with. The results have to be seen to be believed.”

Animal Health Innovations is now distributing this product in the Australian market after the extraordinary results of local trials replicated the international experience.

• LactoferrinPLUS – a naturally occurring milk glycoprotein, Lactoferrin has often been described as a “super-protein” due to its broad and powerful impact on immunity.

Extracted from bovine milk at the point of processing, lactoferrin is extremely challenging to extract with 10,000 litres of fresh milk yielding only approximately 1kg of lactoferrin.

Respected research has demonstrated the anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-parasitic, and anti-inflammatory properties of lactoferrin. Whilst most often used in human health, lactoferrin has been scientifically proven to significantly reduce the incidence and severity of scours in pre-weaned dairy calves:

A report in the Journal of Dairy Science titled: “Supplemental Lactoferrin improves health and growth of Holstein calves during the pre-weaning phase” stated, “Using lactoferrin as a preventative supplement or as a treatment for diarrhoea could reduce the use of traditional antibiotics.”

Consequently, Animal Health Innovations has developed LactoferrinPLUS which is a powdered additive to milk that provides calves with the therapeutically significant quantity of lactoferrin required (1 g/day) to achieve these remarkable results on calves.

Mr Callinan said LactoferrinPLUS is an ideal supplement for everyone looking to maximise their antimicrobial stewardship and protect vulnerable young stock in a responsible way.

• Gusto Introductory Calf Meal – is another important part of the Animal Health Innovations dairy product range.

“With unrivalled palatability and nutrient density, Gusto is a unique and proprietary formulation of calf meal that increases the speed and quantity of initial dry feed uptake in young calves to maximise lifetime performance,” Mr Callinan said.

“Boasting a whopping 20% Protein and 15mJ energy, Gusto clearly leads the pack in this category.”

Mr Callinan said Animal Health Innovations will continue to partner with a select but growing group of likeminded retail stockists on an exclusive territory basis.

Expressions of interest for additional retail stockists are currently being considered. Contact James Callinan to discuss your interest or visit: animalhealthinnovations.com.au
