Agsafe has launched a formal review of its industry standard for the first time in five years.

This process ensures the benchmark guiding the safe handling, storage, and transport of agricultural and veterinary (AgVet) chemicals remains relevant and aligned with current legislation, industry expectations, and practical realities on the ground.

During the past 12 months, Agsafe has received valuable feedback from across the industry – including resellers, logistics providers, regulators, and other stakeholders – about what’s working well and where improvements can be made.

This input has shaped the foundation for the upcoming review and will help create a standard which is both practical and effective.

The timing is also significant: recent updates to key regulatory documents, including the Australian dangerous goods (ADG) code and the Australian standard AS 2507 (storage and handling of agricultural and veterinary chemicals), must be reflected in the Agsafe industry standard to maintain regulatory alignment and support compliance across the supply chain.

Agsafe is currently finalising the selection of participants for a dedicated review panel.

This panel will include a cross-section of industry representatives to ensure broad and balanced input.

Their task will be to examine the current standard, review suggested amendments, and ensure any changes enhance clarity, practicality, and alignment with current regulatory expectations.

The next meeting of the Agsafe industry reference group (IRG) will include a detailed update on the review process.

Participants will be invited to comment on proposed amendments, with a focus on ensuring the revised standard continues to support safe operations and compliance across the sector.

For those working across the agricultural chemical supply chain, the review represents an opportunity to strengthen an already well-established framework.

As the updated Agsafe industry standard takes shape, it will continue to provide clear, consistent guidance that reflects evolving regulatory expectations and practical needs.

Engaging in the review process ensures the standard remains a meaningful tool which supports safe operations, creates shared responsibility, and promotes continuous improvement.

By contributing to and staying informed about the review, industry members help ensure the standard remains fit-for-purpose and aligned with the dynamic nature of agricultural work in Australia.

Together, the industry can continue to uphold the highest standards of safety, stewardship, and sustainability across the supply chain.
